I have really fallen in love with how gold embossed elements look on darker backgrounds, so I decided to experiment with gold embossing powder.
Typically I am a heat emboss first, then color type person, but I know other people also have success with using versafine after coloring and heat embossing last.
My inspiration for this project was the Dear Dahlias Build-a-Garden set from Altenew along with the Blushberry Bliss ink family, which is currently my favorite set of pinks.

For my first method, I used my tried and true method of embossing first.

I think it came out pretty good- I didn’t have any specks of stray embossing powder that really affect the image or coloring very much.

For the second method, I colored first without heat embossing the flower stamp first.

As expected, the coloring phase went just fine, and then I added the versafine and heat embossed. I did heat set my coloring before doing the embossing set so stray embossing powder would not stick to areas where I did not want it.

To be honest, I don’t feel like the embossing was as crisp or detailed with this method. It wasn’t a huge difference, but putting the two side by side, I could see a difference (although I am super critical of my own creations!)

They both look fine, but my personal preference is definitely embossing first, then coloring.
They both also turned into beautiful cards, if I do say so myself!
