I Copied the Packaging (Then Made It My Own) | Altenew Petal Pop + Burnished Platinum on Acetate

Have you ever looked at the inspiration photo on the back of a stamp or stencil package and thought, “I want to make that but make it mine”? That is exactly what this card is about, and I think it might be one of my favorite things I have made in a while.

As an Altenew Ambassador, I get to spend a lot of time with these products, and something I have started doing is using the packaging photo as a jumping-off point rather than a blueprint. The goal is never to recreate it exactly — it is to let it spark something, then take it somewhere completely your own. This card is the first in what I am calling my Make It Mine series, and I cannot wait to keep going with it.

The Supplies

This card uses the Petal Pop Stencil, the Luxe Lattice Stencil, Burnished Platinum Shimmer Relief Paste, the Woodland Escape Fresh Dye Ink Family, Pink Sand Cardstock, Mini Blending Brushes, and the sentiment is from the Craft Your Life Sweet Harvest Kit. Heat-resistant acetate rounds out the supply list for that dimensional top layer.

Building the Base

The card base is Pink Sand cardstock cut to 5.5 x 4.25 inches. The bottom mat layer is also Pink Sand, cut to 4 x 5.25 inches, and this is where the warmth of this card really starts to build.

I ink blended the mat layer first using Pink Sand and Dusty Rose from the Woodland Escape Fresh Dye Ink Family. The Mini Blending Brushes make this so much faster than sponge daubers — the smaller head gives you more control around the edges and you can build color gradually without overworking the ink. That is one of my biggest time-saving tips for ink blending: work lighter than you think you need to and layer up slowly. You can always add more; you cannot take it away.

Once the base was blended, I laid the Luxe Lattice Stencil over the top and applied Pink Sand, Dusty Rose, and Toasted Mauve through it to add depth and texture. The lattice pattern is subtle enough that it reads as a sophisticated background rather than competing with the focal point, but it adds so much richness when you look closely.

The Acetate Layer

This is where the card goes from pretty to stunning. I cut a piece of heat-resistant acetate to the same size as the mat layer and used the Petal Pop Stencil with Burnished Platinum Shimmer Relief Paste to apply the oversized daisy design. The key with shimmer paste on acetate is to use a light, even pressure and let the stencil do the work. You do not need a thick application — a thin, consistent layer catches the light beautifully and dries with that gorgeous metallic shimmer that makes people stop scrolling.

The acetate layer sits on top of the inked mat layer, and because it is transparent, the warm ink blending shows through underneath the shimmer paste petals. That layered effect is what makes this card feel so dimensional even before you add any foam tape.

The Sentiment

The “With a Grateful Heart” sentiment is from the Craft Your Life Sweet Harvest Kit, and it was absolutely perfect for this card. I stamped it in white and black to give it that bold, graphic look that pops against the warm metallic background.

Putting It All Together

The mat layer and acetate are adhered together and then mounted onto the card base. The finished card has this warm, glowy, almost antique-rose-gold feel that I am completely obsessed with. The Burnished Platinum paste reads differently in every light — sometimes more gold, sometimes more bronze — and that shimmer over the translucent acetate with the ink blending underneath is genuinely one of the most beautiful effects I have gotten from these products.
